HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning) is a major sub discipline of mechanical engineering based in the field of thermodynamics. The engineering behind the indoor air quality management in buildings and human comfort is one of high significance in the construction and architecture industries. HVAC system designing courses deal with the heating, ventilation systems designing, air conditioning, refrigeration system designing, and equipment selection. This course introduces the student to the science of the fluid mechanics and heat transfer, giving an insight into the creation of a climate that allows for maximum comfort within a building by compensating for changing climatic conditions.
At the end of the program, students will specialize in full analytical load calculations, ventilation system designing, duct designing, air distribution system designing, sizing pipes and pumps, estimation of requirements, and all HVAC Equipment selections as per ASHRAE, ISHRAE standards. The training will include on-site training and practical knowledge.

Duration of the Course

Diploma in HVAC Design is a 1.5 months course held from Monday to Friday, with classes stretching to 3 hours per day. Industrial visits and on-site training will be provided. 15 days of the course is dedicated to project discussion and basic theories of air conditioning and refrigeration. For the remaining 30 days, students will be introduced to heat load calculation, system designing, detailed drafting, estimation, and BOQ preparation.

Course-Completion Stipulations

Students will be deemed eligible for awarding the Diploma in HVAC Design when they meet the stipulations for satisfactory completion of the course. The stipulations are:

  • Attendance of not less than 80% of the scheduled class hours and other assigned learning activities
  • Completion of all course assignments and performance assessments, with a total of 60 credits.

Career Prospects

Graduates of this course can work as a generalist, or be specialized in areas such as light commercial air conditioning units or oil furnaces. Professionals with higher skills and specialization can demand a higher pay scale or move up to supervisory or management roles. Graduates of this course are also equipped to start their own HVAC business.
